Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a good swimmer?

You should be reasonably fit, and a "water person" who is capable of swimming 200 meters. People who are comfortable snorkeling usually take to scuba diving easily.

How much do scuba lessons cost?

As far as costs go, a scuba certification is comparable to playing golf or boating. Most divers will spend around $1200 getting basic supplies, lessons and a certification trip. If you find a deal on scuba lessons that seems too good to be true, it probably is. Ask for the complete cost including any extra charges for materials, rental equipment, pool fees, etc.

For those who are uncertain if they will like scuba, Divers@Sea offers a “Discover Scuba” pool experience.

Can I earn college credit for taking scuba lessons?

Yes. The American Council on Education has evaluated and recommended college credit for 18 PADI courses, including Open Water. You can find additional details on PADI’s Web site.

There are a wide variety of jobs available for divers who reach the level of Divemaster or Instructor. Read more about PADI Professionals working for the FBI, Cirque du Soleil, NASA, and others.

I haven’t been diving in some time. Do I need to retake the course?

Certification is good for life so long as you keep your skills up. After six months or more of inactivity, we recommend a Scuba Review session.

What equipment will I need for my class?

During the Open Water Class you need your personal equipment including: mask, snorkel, fins, defog and equipment bag. These items are available for purchase at Divers@Sea. We stand behind everything we sell. If it is not right for you, we will find something that is the perfect fit.

What is provided for the class?

Our class includes all your student materials, rental of the BCD, regulator, tank and wetsuit for the pool sessions. It also includes all the pool fees and instructor fees.

Can I sign up for a class and decide on dates later?

Of course. We have classes every month, and can keep you posted as to our upcoming class schedule.

Does Divers@Sea have gift certificates?

Yes, we can custom design them to meet your needs (birthday, congratulations, holiday, etc.), and then mail them to your gift certificate recipient.
